Fair Trade Forum-India organized three days training workshop

Bhubaneswar: Fair Trade Forum-India (FTF-I), organized three days training workshop for women artisans on Design Thinking and Product Innovation in Traditional Handicraft from 15th to 17th of September 2021 in The Presidency Hotel at Bhubaneswar. More than 30 women artisans -Community Facilitators (CFs) participated in the training program, a part of the project ‘STREE’ (Social Transformation and Economic Empowerment of Women Artisans in India) supported by European Union and facilitated by FTF-I. The training program was conducted by master trainers Dr. Srita Bhol and Mr. Damrudhar Behera. It was facilitated by Mr. O.P.Yadav, Executive Director, FTF-I and Ms. Moon Sharma, Board Member, FTF-I.

The workshop started on 15th of September 2021 with the lighting of traditional lamp by the artisans. The first day covered the interaction with the women artisans- Community Facilitators (CFs). The master trainer gave a presentation on design thinking, its processes and activities to understand the concept in detail. The aim was also to integrate the CFs with the design thinking process with a human centric approach and the need to empathize with customers for better design development of the product as per the market demand. Later on the group representatives shared their presentation on understanding of persona development and customer journey map. The artisans took great interest in understanding the presentation and had active interaction with the each other and master trainers. The second day of the workshop also saw an enthusiastic involvement of the CFs in the different activities organized such as: defining customer problem, ideating solutions and developing prototypes. The CFs presented their understanding of the topics through artistic and colourful interpretations on paper charts. They also learnt about creating story boards, the mediums to promote their products in the market, which will help them to develop more market viable and utility-oriented crafts with innovative designs, in order to get more sustainable income.

The training program concluded on 17th of September, with the CFs sharing their final presentations and their learning of the last three days. The concluding ceremony was attended by the guests- Mr. P.K. Gupta, Ministry of MSME, Mr. Kamal Kant Sahoo, from FIEO ER-Odisha, Dr. A.C. Sahoo from of Anwesha, Mr. Subrat Mohanty from Green Leaf, Mrs. Reshmi Mohanty, Unnayan and Mr. Ashok Sahoo from Orupa. They congratulated the artisans for completing their training workshop successfully facilitated by the Fair Trade Forum-India (FTF-I). They applauded the efforts made by FTF-I to support the artisans to raise awareness

about fair trade, upgrade their skills to empower themselves. The guests emphasized that such program needs to be organized more often to help the artisans and assured their full support and cooperation. The vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Moon Sharma.
