The Scholarship of Teaching and Research (STTR) is an innovative program that applies theory, research, and practice in the teaching and research industry. This program was established in collaboration with the National Association for School Marketing and Administration (NASM) to increase the variety and quality of knowledge in K-12 education. The Scholarship covers tuition and related costs for graduate-level degrees in elementary, middle school, secondary, and post-high school education. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of demonstrated leadership in research, excellence in teaching, commitment to community service, or the service at home.
There is a separate Teaching Assistant Scholarship Program that helps graduate and post-graduate students in areas such as special education, deaf studies, and teaching methods and philosophy. In this program, the teaching assistants assist qualified teachers with lesson planning, grading, student supervision, and tutoring. There are also scholarships that are based on the needs of handicapped or disadvantaged students. Students who have undergone autism or cerebral palsy and those who suffer from learning disabilities, are candidates for these types of scholarships.
The Teaching Assistant Scholarship Program is designed to help individuals with teaching experience to take advantage of the increasing demand for certified teachers in certain states. A teaching assistant is someone who helps a teacher run their classroom. This awardee receives an award of up to five thousand dollars a year and can either work full-time or part-time in assisting their teacher. There are different levels of responsibilities that go along with being a certified teacher assistant, depending on what the state requires.
Another option is for those individuals interested in higher learning to pursue graduate education. Students who wish to pursue graduate education often have very specific career goals in mind. For example, some graduate students scholarships for higher learning programs are targeted toward assisting teachers in creating classrooms where children learn and grow. Other graduate opportunities for those looking to improve their education focus on teaching instruction. Whether you want to be involved in research or teaching, there are many options available to you.
For those with a more flexible career, an education scholarship may be the most appropriate avenue for your further education endeavors. One such opportunity is the University of Minnesota’s Master of Science Degree in Educational Foundations and Policy. The Bachelor of Science Degree program in Policy & Practice is specifically designed for students who wish to pursue graduate-level education with a focus on research-based policy practice. With a focus on the practice of policy as a human and political science discipline, students in the Master of Science Degree program in Policy & Practice will have a variety of courses to choose from, including politics, social sciences, history, psychology, law, etc., as well as related, liberal arts courses such as journalism and communications.
Students will also have the opportunity to choose from three concentrations within the program, which are also based on specific fields of study. The first focuses on the philosophy and sociology of education, while the second concentrates on the human sciences and education. The third focuses on business and learning, providing a strong platform for students to further their education and careers. This education research focuses on different areas that affect education, such as how teachers develop their teaching techniques and strategies, what influences the quality of educational input and how students learn and how these factors affect the quality of education in general.
The latest in the line of education research is in the area of student learning and teacher practice. This study examines the ways in which teachers across the country are incorporating student learning practices into lessons. The teacher and student work in teams, interact, share ideas and concerns, and engage in meaningful dialogue that strengthens the relationship between them. The quality of education also depends on the environment that surrounds us and the attitudes and actions of other people. Thus, a strong foundation of social skills and emotional intelligence is crucial for a child’s success in life.
